An Azerbaijani political analyst has said that the USA is behind the
recent rapprochement between Turkey and Armenia and the proposal to
return Armenian-controlled territories to Azerbaijan as part of a
Nagornyy Karabakh settlement.

In an interview with the opposition daily Yeni Musavat, published on
7 October, the chairman of the Centre for National Strategic Research,
Natiq Miri, said that the USA intended to move its troops from Iraq to
Afghanistan through Turkey and Armenia and was therefore interested
in the immediate opening of borders between the two countries and
the settlement of the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict.

"The USA has suffered serious losses in the fight against Taleban in
Afghanistan, thus finding itself in a difficult situation. Therefore,
the USA plans to urgently send its troops in Iraq to Afghanistan. The
settlement of Turkish-Armenian ties, a tight deadline set for the
opening of the border, and intensive negotiations on the Nagornyy
Karabakh conflict contribute to the realization of the USA’s
plans. The USA wants to hand over Iraq to Turkey, take its troops
through the Turkish-Armenian border to the Caspian shores and send them
to Central Asia. The Azerbaijani-Armenian border should be open for
this purpose. [Possible] agreement on returning five districts around
Nagornyy Karabakh is connected with this. This is a US model. Russia
supports this as well."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
