SESSION OF THE INTER-REPUBLIC ASSOCIATION’S COUNCIL OF GAS COMPANIES BUSINESS AND SCIENTIFIC-TECHNICAL COOPERATION KICKS OFF IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS: Session of the inter-republic
association’s council of gas companies business and
scientific-technical cooperation kicked off today in Yerevan and will
last until October 22. The sessions of this establishment created
about 20 years ago are called twice each year. The selection of
Yerevan as a place for conduction of the session is agreed with
the recent positive indexes registered in Armenia’s gas sphere,
implemented reforms and innovations. With the visit to Yerevan an
aim was put to get acquainted with the activity of "ArmRusgasprom"
and develop mechanisms of exchange of experience. The association
includes European, CIS and Baltic countries’ gas services and
gas-transport companies.
In the Yerevan session Russian, Estonian, Czech, German, Ukrainian,
Lithuanian, Belarus, Finn and Moldovan companies take part.
Among the discussed issues will be the activity of members of the
association, development prospects, exploitation of gas-transport
systems, security issues and a number of other issues relating to
the sphere.
General director of "ArmRusgasprom" Karen Karapetyan presented the
activity of the company, issues aroused as a result of the crisis and
steps directed toward their solution, development programs implemented
in the Armenia’s gas sphere.
Karapetyan said the company is one of the leading investors in
Armenia. He said construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline was one
of the most serious steps directed toward increase of level of energy
security in Armenia. Last year the preparatory round of reconstruction
and upgrading of the 5th unit of Hrazdan Thermo Power Plant have been
fully finished and the main works have already launched.
The general director said that the company continues expanding its
positions in financial market and undertakes steps toward increase
of the efficiency of management.
"The last 2008 and the first half of this year were difficult but at
the same time full and effective," he said.
