POLICEMAN-DRIVER RECOGIZED AS AGGRIEVED PERSON TESTIFIES AT TRIAL OF NIKOL PASHINIAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, NOYAN TAPAN. The general jurisdiction court
of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash communities continued the
examination of the case against edotor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak
daily Nikol Pashinian by examining the episode of October 23, 2007. In
this connection N. Pashinian is accused of committing violence,
not dangerous for life or health, against a representative of the
authorities – a policeman.
During the sitting the aggrieved person – policeman-driver Vazgen
Dabaghian was guestioned, and he confirmed the accusation. In his
words, some participants of the march announcing a rally of the
opposition were moving along the carriageway, thus blocking traffic.
According to the policeman, N. Pashinian was saying that policemen are
the slaves and menials of the authorities, while the demonstrators
were using bad language. Then a scuffle broke out, and N. Pashinian
hit him in the leg with his foot.
The witnesses of that episode will be questioned at the October
28 court sitting, then N. Pashinian will give evidence, and other
evidence on the case will be examined.
At the beginning of the court sitting N. Pashinian made a statement,
saying that the essence of the accusation is not clear to him, the
accusation is not concrete.
