ARMENIAN ASSEMBLY CONTINUES OUTREACH ON CAPITOL HILL

Thanks Rep. Wolf for Supporting Armenian Genocide Resolution

Washington, DC – Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) Executive
Director Bryan Ardouny and Congressional Relations Associate Bianka
Dodov thanked Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) for his support of Armenian
issues, including Armenian Genocide resolution, H.Res. 252.

During their meeting, Ardouny and Dodov discussed the importance of U.S.
reaffirmation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the need to ensure
appropriate levels of funding for Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.
Congressman Wolf reiterated his strong support for H.Res. 252, as well
as his ongoing interest in the South Caucasus region and his support for
the people of Nagorno Karabakh. After the meeting, Wolf signed onto the
Armenian Caucus letter supporting $48 million in aid to Armenia and $10
million in assistance to Nagorno Karabakh, which was initiated by
Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues Co-Chair Frank Pallone, Jr.
(D-NJ) and Caucus member Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ).

"The Armenian Assembly commends Congressman Wolf for his steadfast
support of human rights issues, including his dedication to affirmation
of the Armenian Genocide," said Ardouny.

H. Res. 252, introduced by Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), calls upon
the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States
reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues
related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in
the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide. The
legislation has 134 cosponsors to date.

Wolf is a longtime supporter of Armenian issues and traveled to Armenia
and Nagorno Karabakh in 1994, to see first-hand the day-to-day realities
on the ground. Wolf has consistently cosponsored legislation to reaffirm
the Armenian Genocide.

First elected in 1981, Congressman Wolf is currently serving his 15th
term and is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
Congressman Wolf also Co-Chairs, along with his colleague Congressman
Jim McGovern (D-MA), the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, a
bipartisan organization made up of more than 200 Members of Congress who
work together to raise awareness about international human rights
issues.

Established in 1972, the Armenian Assembly of America is the largest
Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding
and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
membership organization.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
