YEREVAN, OCTOBER 27, NOYAN TAPAN. The presentation of the Human
Development 2009 report took place on October 27 at the UN Armenian
Office. It is an annual independent report, which in detail touches
upon urgent global challenges. This year the report is entitled
Overcoming Obstacles: Human Migration and Development.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to Yerevan
Consuelo Vidal attaching importance to the report, in particular,
said that it provides information to the governments to completely
use the current potential. "Inequality between the people who live in
poor and rich countries remains inadmissible and too high. We reduce
the regional differences in incomes and accentuate issues of creation
of jobs, food security, healthcare, children’s protection reflected
within the framework of the UN cooperation," C. Vidal said.

According to RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration Vache
Terterian, the reports being first made in 1990 regarded climate
changes, efficient use and lack of water resources, economic growth
problems, etc. "The issue of human migration has grown so much that
it requires solutions not at the local or regional but at the global
level. Solutions should be found with joint efforts," V. Terterian
said. The Deputy Minister also said that this year Armenia’s Human
Development National Report also regards migration problems.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
