UNCOVERING ALL CRIMES IS ABSURD? ARMENIAN POLICE DEPARTMENT HEAD THINKS SO

During a press conference today, head of the central department
for Combatting Organized Crime (the well-known 6th department of
the police) Hunan Poghosyan referred to the criminal proceedings
initiated on the cases of attacks, beatings and violence against a
number of Armenian journalists including Hetq paper’s journalist Edik
Baghdasaryan, Shant TV’s reporter Nver Mnatsakanyan, Liberty Radio
Station’s editor Hrach Melkumyan and others.

Poghosyan noted that, in all cases, groups were assigned who are
seriously working on the matters at hand. However, he mentioned that,
at this time, nothing has been uncovered in any of the cases.

Someone made a comment that if the police are unable to uncover these
cases, perhaps they should pass the assignment to another body in
charge, to which Poghosyan replied that he didn’t share that opinion.

Besides, he said it would be absurd if all the crimes were uncovered.

Nevertheless, Poghosyan stated they have realistic prospects for
revealing the violence acts against journalists.
