YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. The consequences of development of
the Armenian-Turkish relations are not predetermined, and Armenia
cannot prepare for them. DPA Chairman Aram Sargsian stated at an
October 28 press conference. In his words, the RA Foreign Minister
thought that Turkey will not ratify the protocols signed on October
10 and made serious concessions. However, according to A. Sargsian,
Turkey will not refuse to ratify the protocols as it is beneficial
for Turkey now. According to the DPA leader, the document put on
table today is in Turkey’s interests as with that document Armenia
recognizes Turkey’s borders and besides, Turkey receives a possibility
to submit for discussion and thus to cast a doubt on the fact of the
Armenian Genocide.

"If so far Armenia for several times has recognized the borders
of Turkey as our Foreign Ministry asserts, why do the protocols
contain a point about it now?," A. Sargsian said. He mentioned
that the Armenian authorities should separate the subjects, around
which bargaining with the Turks should be excluded. In particular,
according to him, territorial claims of Hay Dat offices to Turkey
should be kept unchanged. The current Armenian-Turkish border being
in essence the border of the USSR and Turkey should not be recognized
and, lastly, Armenia should not renounce the struggle for recognition
of the Genocide.

Declaring that currently a power shift will not help but will damage
Armenia’s interests on the diplomatic front A. Sargsian also mentioned
that DPA expects correction of the mistakes made by the RA President.
