Democratic Party of Armenia proposes to adopt a memorandum which
will list the key items of unresolved issues of Armenian-Turkish
relations still remaining in Armenian agenda of foreign policy qua
irresistible consequence of Genocide. Such a statement was made by
head of Democratic Party of Armenia, Aram Sarkisyan, who pointed that
such a memorandum would protect Armenia against wrong steps.

Speaking about ratification of protocols, Aram Sarkisyan said that
the Turkish side will benefit from ratification since it provides
solutions of some issues: issue of border recognition, issue of
Turkey’s territorial integrity, withdrawal from the agenda the item
of Genocide recognition as well as some other matters – not acceptable
for Armenia.

Those mentions of issue of Karabakh do not cause concerns as protocols
in generally are aimed at reconciliation within the framework of
bilateral relations.

"Turkey is now more interested in developing relations with Armenia
than ever. We should ask ourselves why Turkey didn’t move towards
Armenia in early 90s or during reign of Robert Kocharyan. The reason
is not that those presidents couldn’t reach an agreement. Turkey just
didn’t need it. But today it is among its geopolitical interests, that
is why it seek to take this step at any price," said the politician
adding that protocols involve obligations of Armenia and Turkey –
never happened before.

"Turkey believes that the border is not recognized as Armenia’s
Parliament hasn’t adopted it. The main goal of Turkey is the
ratification of protocols," he says. That is why the Parliament
must add a document explaining Armenian position and identify the
issues that cannot become objects of speculation in the framework of
bilateral partnership.
