ANKARA — Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold
talks with US President Barack Obama in Washington on December 7 on
issues including Iraq and Afghanistan, the Turkish government said
on Thursday.

Other topics on the table for the White House meeting include
the Middle East, the Caucasus and the struggle against terrorism,
according to a statement from Erdogan’s press office.

Turkey, which is a member of NATO, has improved relations with Iran
in recent years and Erdogan visited earlier this week in an attempt
to ease tensions over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

In an interview with a British newspaper, Erdogan accused Western
powers of treating Iran unfairly and downplayed concerns that Tehran
wanted to build nuclear weapons as "gossip".

Turkey and Armenia, long divided by a bloody history, signed historic
agreements earlier this month to end decades of hostility, establish
formal ties and open their border — deals hailed by the United States.

Erdogan’s US visit comes at Washington’s invitation and follows
Obama’s trip to Turkey in April.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
