OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF, ARMENIA MADE PROGRESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TRAFFICKING

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "One of the most important factors affecting
migration is the global economic crisis," Gagik Yeganyan, head of the
migration department of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration
of told a meeting with journalists on November 3.
The growth of migration flows was 33.1 per cent in 2007, 8.8 per cent
in 2008, and just 4 per cent over the first half of 2009.
However, analysts’ predictions concerning the return of living in
other countries, long-term migrants, were not justified.
RA Vice-Premier, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen
Gevorgyan, in his speech, presented the progress that Armenia had
over the last year and a half in the fight against trafficking. At the
request of a PanARMENIAN.Net Gagik Yeganyan clarified some points of
the U.S. State Department’s annual report on trafficking, the latter
referred to the establishment of the Armenian Committee for Combating
Trafficking, implementing legislative reforms.
