Co-Chairs called on Aliyev to refrain from warlike statements

20:50 / 11/22/2009After Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting in Munich, OSCE Minsk
Group Co-Chairs called on Azerbaijani President to refrain from making
warlike statements. As NEWS.am reported earlier, on the threshold of
the meeting, Ilham Aliyev made a number of warlike statements. In
particular, he stated that if the hope for talks comes to an end
`country is justified in liberating its territories by coercive
methods.’

The meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Serzh Sargsyan and
Ilham Aliyev, has begun at the Consulate of France in Munich, Germany.
Both countries’ Foreign Ministers Elmar Mammadyarov and Edward
Nalbandyan, as well as OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs- Robert Bradtke
(USA), Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia) and Bernard Fassier (France) and the
personal representative of the Chairman-in-Office Ambassador Andzrej
Kasprzyk participated in the meeting. In the course of the meeting,
the officials exchanged opinions on current stage and prospects of
negotiations on Karabakh conflict settlement.

World mass media have provided coverage of the meeting in the context
of the Azeri leader’s strongly worded statements. Specifically, the
Euronews TV channel entitled its report as `Last chance talks over
Karabakh’. The source reports that `the Moscow mediated truce deal
signed last year between Azerbaijan and Armenia is on the verge of
unravelling if talks today do not produce a result.’ Referring to the
Azeri leader, Euronews reports that `President Ilham Aliyev has
already warned his country would be prepared to take the region back
by force.’
