Today the training seminar was launched in Yerevan sponsored by
Rotterdam Convention Secretariat and Armenia’s government. Among
participants are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Moldova,
Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Russia.

Welcoming the participants, Armenia’s Minister for and Nature
Protection Aram Harutyunyan said that there are still countries which
do not have official bodies responsible for pesticide management and
chemical crop protection.

The Rotterdam Convention was officially ratified by Armenia. The
Rotterdam Convention is a global treaty that came into force in
February 2004. It is designed to protect public health and the
environment by promoting informed decision-making by importing
countries in relation to products that have been banned or severely
restricted by at least two other Parties to the Convention.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
