Bernard Kouchner French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has called
on Azerbaijan and Armenia to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict soon.
Addressing the 17th OSCE Ministerial Council on Tuesday, Kouchner
said there was a strong basis for a solution to the conflicts over
Nagorno-Karabakh and Transdniestria in eastern Moldova.
He said that the efforts of the Minsk Group mediators and the
Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents had led to important steps in a
solution to the conflict.
"The presidents have met six times this year alone. We hope that
progress will be made in Athens too and the conflict will be solved
soon. I call on the foreign ministers of both countries to reach an
agreement on the solution to the conflict and to set it out on paper."
Touching upon Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s proposal for a
European security system, the minister said France was one of the
countries that supported this proposal.
"The solution of old conflicts and the prevention of new threats is
a priority of this security system."
