ArmInfo. Syunik Regular Court has finally taken over the next case
by the owners of Shahumyan district, Kapan, against Deno Gold Mining
Company. The court will meet on Dec 25 2009, EcoLur NGO told ArmInfo.
Residents of the region demand stoppage of the company’s activity
in Shahumyan region and compensation for damage cause to their lives
and health. On 23 October the regular court of Syunik region issued a
verdict which sounds a little bit misty "About prevention of danger
to the life and health of Shaumyan region residents because of the
mining activity at this territory". But it is not clear what events
are supposed under the word "prevention". Some time later, in November
the same judge Anahit Tumanyan rejected suit against DGM, grounding
such a decision that no proof of threatening the life and health of
people was presented in the materials of the case.
Earlier On November 16 Ara Poghosyan (age 43) died in the underground
mine operated by Deno Gold Mining. Specialists from the National
Technical Safety Center investigate the reason of the incident. This is
already the second tragic incident for the last two years. On January
10 2008 an accident at Shahumyan deposit killed David Lazarian
(29). No case has been initiated on this fact.
