NATO-Russia and NATO-region relationships are essential for Armenia
from the point of view that during the August 2008 Russo-Georgian
war, one of Russia’s messages was about NATO not broadening, said
Heritage Party representative Stepan Safaryan, adding that NATO hasn’t
refused the prospect of including countries in the region as part of
its membership.
Speaking about the relationship between NATO and Russia, Safaryan also
referred to Armenia-Turkey relations. In this issue, according to the
MP, a joining of positions, along with efforts, can be noticed, so
that the Armenia-Turkey border can be opened. And that, in Safaryan’s
opinion, will lead to the elimination of at least one of the region’s
deadlocks.
"Though even after the elimination of that impasse, the NATO-Russia
confrontation will continue, since both sides aren’t resigning from
pursuing their own interests in the region," concluded Safaryan.
