Celeste Wallander, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, who
arrived in Armenia yesterday, has visited the Armenian peace-making
brigade today, December 3. Journalists were expecting her to make
statements on the results of her meetings as well as of her visit
to Azerbaijan. After waiting for Ms. Wallander for an hour, the
journalists had to retire. "No questions" was the answer.

"No questions" repeated U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch.

After a few stock phrases about the U.S.-Armenia cooperation in
peace-making operations, Ms. Wallander left.

It is noteworthy that, when on a visit to Baku, the representative
of the U.S. Department of Defense, which is known to be fighting for
the prosperity of all the nations, stated that the United State is
supportive of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The
official Azerbaijani sources reported that the "sides were of
the unanimous opinion that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict must first of all be based on the principle of Azerbaijan’s
territorial integrity and inviolability of borders recognized by the
world’s states and international law." After that Ms. Wallander must
have been faced with a task of slipping the Armenian journalists to
avoid their questions about the Nagorno-Karabakh people’s right to
self-determination and security.
