SERZH SARGSYAN: ARMENIA IS OBLIGED AND ABLE TO MAKE ITS CONTRIBUTION TO PROMOTION OF INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 4, NOYAN TAPAN. During the December 3 meeting of
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary
of Defense Celeste Wallander who is on a visit to Armenia, the sides
assessed the cooperation of the two countries in the defense sphere
and the implemented projects as efficient. According to S. Sargsyan,
during his term as defense minister of Armenia, he participated in
the establishment of this cooperation. He added that there is much
potential for developing the cooperation. The president underlined the
importance of Armenia’s participation in international peacekeeping
operations, noting that Armenia is obliged and able to make its
contribution to the promotion of international security.

Stating that Armenia values the support that the U.S. administration
has provided since Armenia’s independence, Serzh Sargsyan added: "We
also value highly the United States’ efforts on establishment of peace
and stability in our region and on solution of the regional problems".

C. Wallander said that the purpose of her visit is become better
acquainted with Armenia’s priorities in the defense sector. Noting
that her country appreciates Armenia’s participation in various
peacekeeping missions, she said that she went to the peacekeeping
brigade of the RA armed forces on the same day and was impressed by
the skills of Armenian servicemen.

According to the RA presidential press service, the interlocutors
also exchanged ideas about regional developments and problems.
