Turkey’s foreign minister describes meetings in Greece as "fairly positive"
Athens, 2 December: Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on
Wednesday that his talks in Greek capital of Athens were "fairly
positive".
Davutoglu had meetings with foreign ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan,
Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Lithuania and Austria within the
scope of the meeting of Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) Ministers Council.
Speaking to Turkish reporters, Davutoglu said that his meetings with
foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan were pleasing.
Davutoglu said that Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey and he
discussed minaret referendum in Switzerland in their meeting.
Calmy-Rey’s approach to the matter was quite positive, he said.
"Calmy-Rey comprehends well Islam world’s and Turkey’s sensitivity
regarding the matter and said an appropriate policy will be adopted,"
he said.
Davutoglu said European leaders should give sound messages to the
Islam world, and a referendum on the matter did not comply with human
rights and European principles.
In regard to Upper Karabak issue, Davutoglu said he was glad about
progress that was achieved in a solution to the matter, and there was
need for a sound cooperation for a permanent solution in Caucasus.
