RPA DEPUTY: RPA WILL STAY LOYAL TO ITS PRINCIPLES IN 2010

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The noteworthy political developments
of 2009 took place within the framework of President Serzh Sargsyan’s
initiating policy. Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Board and NA RPA
faction member Artak Zakarian expressed such an opinion at a December
8 press conference. He reminded that open public discussions were
organized in Armenia and Turkey as a result of Armenian-Turkish
intensive negotiations, which was followed by the signing of the
protocols.

"The negotiations over the Nagorno Karabakh problem were also in the
focus of the processes during the year, and they continued with OSCE
Minsk Group Co-chairs’ mediation," the RPA deputy said. According to
him, the statement signed in Athens is also of special significance.

It reaffirms the necessity of solving the conflict on the basis of
the principles of nations’ self-determination, territorial integrity,
and non-use of force.

As an important step in the home political sphere the RPA Board member
mentioned the elaboration and implementation of an anti-crisis program
by the government. In his opinion, the other important developments
were formation of Yerevan municipal authorities through elections,
Public Council’s activities, ruling coalition’s rearrangement, as
well as RPA’s 12th convention. According to A. Zakarian, RPA assuming
responsibility for all processes in the country as a big leading
party reaffirmed its resolution of recording further achievements. He
declared that in 2010 RPA will stay loyal to its principles in the
Armenian-Turkish problem and Nagorno Karabakh issue, as well as will
carry out reforms in the state government system.
