80 PERCENT OF THE ARMENIAN POPULATION IS LIABLE TO DISASTER RISK

Today, the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan was present at the World
Bank funded discussion of the report on decline of catastrophe
risk and administration of states of emergency in which local
and international experts and representatives of non-governmental
organizations participated.
The head of the Armenian office of the World Bank Aristomene Varudakis
noted that the 80 percent of the Armenian population is liable to
catastrophe risks.
Numerous natural disasters threaten Armenia which have already caused
much social-economic damages to the country and will keep seizing
the country’s limited measures until the government did not take up
preventive measures.
Proposals on working out a project aimed at declining the risk of
natural disasters in Armenia based at the systems, mechanisms and
structural abilities of the country to resist effectively disasters
were made. Additional authority was proposed to be allocated to
communes, as well as to assist initiatives, to boost the cooperation
of the country with the private sector.
