ANC BURBANK BRINGS TOGETHER COMMUNITY IN ADVANCE OF US CENSUS

BURBANK, CA – Nearly 50 residents of Burbank braved inclement weather to
join the Armenian National Committee of Burbank (ANC Burbank) at their
final community issues briefing of the year this past Saturday. Hosted
at the new Ovrom Park community center on San Fernando Road, local and
regional ANC leaders briefly updated the community regarding Armenian
American issues at the local, state, and federal level. The event took
the opportunity to raise awareness of the upcoming 2010 US Census.

"After a successful first event, we look forward to continuing our
outreach to Burbank’s Armenian community to assure everyone gets counted
come spring and the census," noted Garen Yegparian, chairman of the ANC
Burbank.

The event featured Natalie Osgood from the City of Burbank’s Complete
Count Committee who discussed the importance of the Census and how
getting an accurate count will affect the community and quality of life
issues. Yegparian provided information about the Census in Armenian and
joined Osgood in providing a bilingual review of the Census
questionnaire form that every American will receive in March of 2010.
They noted the importance of everyone completing the census, regardless
of citizenship status. They also fielded questions from the audience
regarding how to fill out the form and how the information is kept
secure.

Participants in the briefing ranged from high school and college
students to senior citizens. The organizing committee was pleased with
the first event and emphasized that they looked forward to future events
with more community partners to spread awareness about the 2010 US
Census.

The Armenian National Committee of Burbank advocates social, economic,
cultural, and political activism by promoting a stronger civic
participation of a dense Armenian American population through grassroots
efforts.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
