Heritage Party member, MP Anahit Bakhshyan, before the government
session today, asked the prime minister to turn his attention to the
plea made by family members of the pilots and crew who perished in the
2001 Yak-40 plane crash. The aircraft belonged to Armenian Airlines
and had crashed in Iran.

The next of kin of the Armenian Airlines crew who died in the crash,
as per legislation, had been receiving compensation; however, payments
ceased in the last 2 years. Armenian Airlines declared bankruptcy
already some years ago, and the person in charge of the company’s
affairs explained that compensation amounts can be paid only after the
company’s assets (most notably, real estate property in Sevan) have
been sold. But this process, for unknown reasons, is being delayed.

The five families of the deceased airline staff were standing in front
of the building today, requesting a meeting with government officials.

When Bakhshyan attempted to remind Armenian Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsyan about this, the PM responded by saying that they welcome
everyone, but the MP was persistent. "You are interrupting the
government session," said the PM, exasperated.
