According to RA Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan,
there are still industrial reserves of white fish.
The minister informed journalists today that fingerlings (recently
hatched fish) have been discovered as a result of this year’s
investigations into Lake Sevan, adding that the exact count of the
fingerlings will take place in the coming year.
Harutyunyan also turned his attention to the unlawful sale of fishes
and their spawn. For instance, in some marketplaces, caviar of the
fish Ishkhan (literally, "prince") is being sold. These are not from
Lake Sevan, advised the minister, but rather have been raised in
unnatural environments. According to Harutyunyan, the ministry is
keeping a close eye on the matter.
The minister of nature protection also presented the latest data
on Lake Sevan’s rising water level: in 2009, the water rose by 40
cm. For comparison purposes, Lake Sevan’s water level rose only by
about 6 cm in the previous year.
