"Azerbaijan’s government keeps on playing the fool with people
promising fast progress in settlement of the Karabakh conflict," said
leader of People Front Party of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli, according to
the Caucasian Uzel Agency.
"There is neither encouraging thing in negotiations. Moreover, the
parts are negotiating on the basis of the Madrid principles which
involve a referendum on status of Karabakh," said Ali Kerimli.
Besides, all the negotiations have objective of ‘detaching’, not
‘returning’, said politician.
An analyst Fikret Sadikhov said a year is lost in negotiations
on Karabakh because of ‘Armenia’s position which became even more
hard-and-fast after signing the protocols in Zurich on normalisation
relations with Turkey’.
This year marked several meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani
leaders and OSCE Minsk Group’s co-chairs. Besides, OSCE Minsk Group
represented by Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia), Robert Bradtke (USA), and
Bernard Fassier (France) paid a visit to Azerbaijan on December 11.
Their visit to Armenia is scheduled for January 2010 to ‘to harmonize
the basic principles of Karabakh settlement’ according to statements
by OSCE MG.
Before, on December 1 2009 Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward
Nalbandyan, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov, Russian
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, France’s Minister for Foreign Affairs
Bernard Kouchner, and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg
have made a joint statement on Karabakh, in Athens. The officials
stressed ‘that the agreement on the fundamental principles will became
a basis for the framework of the establishing peace, stability and
well-being in the region.’
Robert Bratke, a new chairman of the OSCE MG, said the peace
settlement cannot go wrong with opinion and wills of people of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
After these statements, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev said is
ready to go to military meanings and to war with Armenia. Armenia’s
government, in its turn, responded to this by saying will recognize
the NKR in case of war.
