Heydar Jamal "Turkish-Russian rapprochement was started long time ago.
The main thing for Azerbaijan is that Erdogan is planning to visit
Armenia following Russia", said chairman of the Russian Islamic
Committee, Russian-based Azerbaijani political scientist Heydar Jamal,
commenting on the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit
to Moscow on Tuesday.
"Today Armenian-Turkish relations are first intrigue in the South
Caucasus and Western Asia where Ankara-Moscow-Yerevan-Tehran quadrangle
is formed. Of course, this is not within US and NATO interests", said
Jamal. He said the main thing was that how serious was this quadrangle.
"The seriousness of this quadrangle is under the question. The
most concerning part is Armenia because Armenian opposition and
Diaspora negatively accepted establishing relations with Turkey. The
opposition benefits from this situation trying to shake the Sargsyan’s
government. I consider that the developments are the beginning
of strong and radical events to characterize 2010 and we will see
significant changes in the leading part of this game".
Jamal said he received information about Erdogan’s visit to Yerevan
from reliable sources. "I was told that Erdogan will visit Yerevan
following Sergei Lavrov".
Trying to explain goals of Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Yerevan,
Jamal focused attention on the problems with ratification of the
Turkish-Armenian protocols signed last October in Zurich.
"I think that very sensitive issues will be discussed in Yerevan and
there will be serious discussions on Iran, Kurdish problem and of
course, Karabakh’s fate".
