The witnesses of the massacres of the Armenian in Baku on January 13-19
that took place 20 years ago, Edita Arutyunova, Eleonora Avabesov
and Robert Khachatryan the head of the "Union of Baku Compatriots"
organization presented their personal stories to the reporters,
their feelings and the present situation.
Edita Arutyunova’s brother was kidnapped during the massacres. The
kidnappers had demanded a ransom and then had killed him severely. She
had reached Armenia with difficulties.
Eleonora Avabesov says, she had managed to leave on time. In 1988 on
November she had moved to Spitak, where the 2nd blow was after the
nature. The destroying earthquake occurred in Spitak.
Robert Khachatryan had moved from Baku with his family, at the end
of the massacres leaving his home and property.
The three witnesses of the massacres mention that the Azerbaijani
were tensed with the Armenians long before.
The speakers say that they are living in Armenia for around 20 years
the problem of their living place is not solved yet and the government
is not supporting them in this issue. Their children just like them
are not citizens of Armenia. The migration agency is not giving them
status of a refugee, but is pushing them to get a citizenship.
"The NGOs have been engaged with the defense of our rights, in the
UNO they have raised the question of getting compensation for the
property they have left in Baku. Everything was fruitless. Today there
is no organization that is engaged with that issue. Now nobody pays
attention at us", – R. Khachatryan said.
