/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and all interested
parties give careful consideration to the Nagorno Karabakh problem,
said Andrei Nesterenko, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
`Consultations and exchange of views are held continuously. This is a
specific problem and the sides provide the media with information as
the need arises,’ he said.
The Nagorno Karabakh conflict broke out in 1988 as result of the
ethnic cleansing launched by Azerbaijan in the final years of the
Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 to 1994. Since the
ceasefire in 1994, most of Nagorno Karabakh and several regions of
Azerbaijan around it (the security zone) remain under the control of
Nagorno Karabakh defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan have since been
holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group.
