NKR DEFENSE MINISTER: `PEACE IS MAINTAINED IN THE REGION MAINLY THANKS
TO THE NKR DEFENSE ARMY’S MIGHT’

«I’m sure that peace is maintained in the region mainly thanks to the
might of the NKR Defense Army. Constantly increasing the military
capacity of our Army, we should compel our opponent to speak with us
at the negotiation table and not in the battle field’, stated Defense
Minister of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, General-Lieutenant Movses
Hakobian.
According to him, 2009 was quite complicated for the NKR armed forces,
but thanks to the diligent work of the whole personnel of the NKR
Defense Army, we managed to achieve all our goals and create good
prerequisites for the further increase of the level of our military
capacity.
«The most important for us is to ensure the security of the NKR
borders. Last year, our opponent couldn’t commit serious
encroachments. Today, our soldiers feel themselves more confident in
the forefront than ever’, said the NKR Defense Minister. At the same
time, he noted that compared with the previous year, the opponent’s
firing of the Karabakh positions had increased. As a whole, the
Azerbaijani party has violated the cease-fire regime 3.042 times.
Speaking of the snipers’ withdrawal from the contact-line of the NKR
and AR armed forces, the Minister noted that Azerbaijan had refused to
sign a corresponding agreement with the NKR Defense Army leadership.
Commenting on the militant statements of official Baku, Movses
Hakobian said: `We should listen to such statements and make
corresponding conclusions and undertake everything in order that they
remain just statements. I’m sure that if Azerbaijan is ready for a
war, it will start it without asking anybody’s permission. That’s why
the NKR Defense Army soldiers haven’t left the trenches in the
forefront for 16 years, in the conditions of neither war nor peace,
that’s why we have orderly units, which are in operational readiness
#1», said Movses Hakobian.
The Minister is convinced that it is impossible to impose any status
on Nagorno Karabakh without taking into account its people’s will.
