Three People Killed In Railway Accident

THREE PEOPLE KILLED IN RAILWAY ACCIDENT

YEREVAN, January 18, /ARKA/. Three people were killed on January 16
when their car collided with a passenger train traveling between the
capital city Yerevan and Ararat town, the press service of the South
Caucasian Railways said.

The accident occurred at 3.15 pm on a section between Artashat and
Aigevan when a Mercedes car tried to pass a railway crossing at a
very high speed ignoring the approaching train. Passengers of the
train were not injured.

The company stressed the necessity of conducting special classes
in schools, universities, organizations to explain safety rules on
railways crossings. It also called on mass media to highlight this
problem.

The South-Caucasian Railways CJSC is concession manager of
the Armenian Railway Company. It is fully owned by the Russian
Railways Company. Armenian Railway has been handed over to the
South-Caucasian Railways CJSC for 30 years with a right for one-decade
prolongatio.
