Reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey has close links to the
settlement of the Karabakh conflict, said at today’s press conference
former foreign minister of Armenia, a member of the oppositional
Armenian National Congress, Alexander Arzoumanian.

"We must consider Armenia-Turkey relations in the context of
strengthening of Russia-Turkey relations. Russia and Turkey have
relations on the basis of national interests and economical ties. The
so-called ‘football diplomacy’ either came from Russia," he said.

When asked about statements by Russian prime minister and foreign
minister that Armenia-Turkey reconciliation and the Karabakh conflict
have no links, Alexander Arzoumanian said Russia wants to back Armenia
through these statements. He said the same statements were made by
German and French ambassadors.

"All these statements make sure that these processes, in fact,
have links.

"Turkey’s Parliament will ratify protocols only after development in
the process of Karabakh which can be accepted by Turkey as a positive
trend," added Alexander Arzoumanian.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
