Aliyev, Sargsian ready to continue peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict

BAKU, January 22 (Itar-Tass) — The presidents of Azerbaijan and
Armenia, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsian, have expressed the readiness
to continue peaceful settlement of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict and
confirmed their solid approach to the negotiating process, the OSCE
Minsk Group’s co-chairmen said in a statement on Friday.
While summing up results of their visit to the region, the mediators
of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said
that they met with President Aliyev in Baku on Thursday, and with
President Sargsian in Yerevan on Wednesday.
`President Sargsian was handed over an updated version of the 2007
Madrid document, which includes latest changes of the conflict
settlement’ s basic principles,’ the statement runs.
The same document was handed over to the Azerbaijani president in
December 2009.
According to the statement, after the talks in Baku and Yerevan, the
mediators left for Astana to hold consultations with the OSCE
Chairman-in-Office ` Kazakhstani Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev.
On January 25, the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan will
gather in Sochi for a trilateral meeting on the Nagorny Karabakh
settlement. The meeting will be held at an initiative of Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev, the statement said.
