/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On April 20-May 2, Baku will host World Youth Boxing
Championship, where winners will qualify for participation in 2010
Youth Olympics in Istanbul.
As Day.az reported, Tbilisi hosted a meeting between Armenian and
Azeri representatives, covering details of Armenian boxers’ possible
arrival to Baku.
As the first vice-president of Armenian Boxing Federation Derenik
Gabrielyan told PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, several days ago, Armenian
National Committee representatives visited Georgia, where 20th
anniversary of Georgian National Olympic Committee was celebrated.
Armenian and Azeri representatives had an unofficial discussion on
participation of Armenian boxers in world championship.
As Day.az alleges, Armenian Federation decided to attain the chance
for participation in Singapore Olympics without participation in
World Championship, requesting International Boxing Association for
licenses and receiving a refusal.
Vice president Derenik Gabrielyan stated in reply, that Armenia never
made such a request to AIBA and Azeri press reports are in fact a
disinformation. "We only addressed AIBA with a request to conclude a
trilateral Armenia-Azerbaijan -AIBA agreement, to receive visas and
provide our sportsmen’s safety. We’re waiting to get a reply from
AIBA," he said.
According to Vice -Champion, Armenian boxers will participate in World
Championship in Baku. "We have very strong boxers, who’re currently
competing for first places in international tournament in Donetsk,"
he stressed.
