IRANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMES EFFORTS AIMED AT ESTABLISHMENT OF RELATIONS BETWEEN ARMENIA AND TURKEY

YEREVAN, JANUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian
met with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on January
26. The latter is in Armenia for the purpose of taking part in the
9th session of the Armenian-Iranian joint Intergovernmental Commission.

According to the RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department,
the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Iran in detail discussed
bilateral, regional and international issues at the meeting. They
expressed satisfaction with the circumstance that periodical
high-level contacts and mutual visits are evidence of interest in
further development of Armenia-Iran relations and cooperation.

In the context of discussion of issues regarding the two countries’
trade and economic relations E. Nalbandian and M. Mottaki expressed
confidence that the 9th session of the Armenian-Iranian joint
Intergovernmental Commission will be held efficiently and at a high
level. The interlocutors attached importance to further expansion of
the legal-contractual sphere, which will give new possibilities for
deepening bilateral cooperation.

The Foreign Ministers exchanged thoughts over ensuring security
and stability in the region, touched upon the latest developments
in the Nagorno Karabakh settlement negotiations process. They also
discussed issues related to the normalization process of Armenia-Turkey
relations. M. Mottaki welcomed the efforts aimed at establishment of
relations between Armenia and Turkey.
