Armenian and Turkish authorities began to accuse each other of putting
the rapprochement process at risk when Ankara challenged the Armenian
Constitutional Court’s ruling on the Armenia-Turkey Protocols.

Turkish daily Taraf attempted to find out the viewpoints of Turkish
retired diplomats on the issue.

Some Turkish retired diplomats, who spoke on terms of anonymity,
on the whole, saw a positive step in the RA Constitutional Court’s
ruling. They also criticized the Turkish ruling Justice and Development
Party (AKP) for the policy it adopted towards the normalization
process.

"Various political and juridical theses have been mixed up in the RA
Constitutional Court’s ruling. It boils down to the fact that it is an
inexperienced and second-class court. It has managed to do that much
in its 19-year existence – it could have been worse. Our Constitutional
Court has a 49-year history and it’s in a far worse situation. But, in
any case, the RA Constitutional Court’s ruling is a green light for the
Armenian authorities in terms of the ratification of the Protocols,"
said Turkish retired diplomats, at the same time criticizing the AKP
for linking the country’s domestic political turmoil to the ruling
of the Armenian Constitutional Court.

In Turkish diplomats’ opinion, there is not any restrictive
provision or precondition in the court ruling and the fact that
Turkey has challenged it is a clear sign that the AKP is bowing to
the uproar raised in Azerbaijan and also to the blackmail organized
by nationalistic movements of the country.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
