YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4, NOYAN TAPAN. At the February 4 sitting, the
Armenian government approved the draft on making an addition to
government decision No 1656-A of 30 November 2006, by which the list of
services provided by HayPost company has been expanded. In particular,
henceforth the company will carry out customs intermediary activity.

According to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, in recent period numerous
complaints about non-provision of such services by HayPost had been
received. "The process is simplified through giving this authority
to HayPost: this process was quite complicated previoulsy, but now
it will be facilitated for citizens," he said.

During a briefing held after the government sitting, Minister of
Transport and Communication Gurgen Sargsyan said that until now
HayPost had no right to carry out customs intermediary activity,
and the person who received a parcel had to deal with customs bodies
as well. In the minister’s words, when receiving parcels, citizens,
especially residents of Armenian regions, encountered some obstacles.

"Henceforth people will deal with HayPost only, which will do all
customs paper work. It is a serious measure simplifying the process,"
the minister noted.

G. Sargsyan said that after the replacement of HayPost’ trust manager,
the company made considerable progress: in 2009 it operated at a
profit of 1.2 billion drams, 30 post offices in Yerevan and marzes
were repaired, another 50 post offices will be repaired this year.

Besides, the quality and accessibility of postal services have
increased. As regards the foundation of Post Bank, the minister
announced that the first branch will open this spring.
