The unrecognized republic of Karabakh cannot become a part of
Azerbaijan again, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian told
students and professors of the Yerevan State University.
"Everyone must understand that it is necessary to settle the conflict
through negotiations. Yet the Karabakh future within Azerbaijan is
impossible," he said.
"The negotiations are rested on three main principles, i.e. the right
of Karabakh to self-determination, the land corridor between Karabakh
and Armenia and Karabakh security," the minister said.
Azerbaijan is seeking maximum advantages in the negotiations, he
noted. "They must understand that a unilateral solution is possible,"
he said.
The minister did not rule out the possible resumption of hostilities.
"There are always such risks. We will do our best to protect the
country and the people in case of war," Ohanian said.
There are certain expectations of progress, that is why the
negotiations march on, he said.
