YEREVAN, February 12, /ARKA/. Mark Lewis, who headed an IMF
delegation’s visit to Armenia, said in an interview with a local daily
Kapital that Armenian GDP may exceed the projected 1.2% growth this
year to reach 2%.

He described, however, the government’s projection as ‘quite real.’
According to IMF’s ‘Prospects for the Global and Regional Economy’
report, the global economy will grow this year by 3.9%, and by 4.3%
in 2011.

According to Mark Lewis, Armenian inflation is forecasted at 6.8%.

"However our inflation forecasts are not complete because it is
difficult to say how much it will grow this year,’ he said adding that
it depends on such factors as demand, national currency’s exchange
rates and fuel prices.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
