Armenian police detains large batch of narcotics

Yerevan, 11 February: The Armenian law-enforcers have confiscated an
unprecedented batch of heroin and opium to the tune of 2m dollars. The
drugs have been illegally smuggled into Armenia from Turkey with
violation of the state border.

An Iranian national, Hoseyn Mohammad Amin Kalekan Tazehkand, was
detained on 8 February, the press service of the Armenian
Prosecutor-General’s Office has told the Mediamax news agency.

A small batch of opium was discovered during the search of his car. On
the same day, a Russian national, Hovhannes Davtyan, was detained with
seven kilograms of opium confiscated from his car.

About 10 people, engaged in drug pushing, have been detained in the
framework of the investigation.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
