/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Experts, who predict that Ukraine’s policy
will be pro-Russian when Viktor Yanukovych takes office, are
mistaken, according to Marat Hakobyan, political columnist, head of
Analitika.at.ua analytical and information center.
"Kyev’s policy is more likely to be neither pro-Russian nor
pro-American. It’ll be pro-Ukrainian. Viktor Yanukovych will pursue
an adequate and predictable policy aiming at rehabilitation of the
country’s economy. This means intensification of political and economic
collaboration both with the West and CIS countries," he said.
Mr. Hakobyan appreciates Yanukovych as a politician-pragmatist, who
is aware of the Ukraine’s potential and repeatedly demonstrated
consistency, what inspires hope for political and economic
stabilization.
"Relations with Armenia will noticeably improve. As to the relations
with Russia and CIS countries, Viktor Yanukovych numerously stated
it will be a priority," he said.
On February 15, Ukraine’s Central Election Commission announced Viktor
Yanukovych, leader of regions party, as the winner of the February
7 presidential election. During the second tour of elections Mr.
Yanukovych received 48,95 percent of the votes, while prime-minister
Yuliya Tymoshenko garnered only 45,47 percent.
