The two-year process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations
is coming to an end, but not as a result of ratification of the
protocols, says Hakob Avetikyan, editor-in-chief of the Azg Daily.
According to him, Turkey will not ratify the protocols even under
the trheat of recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
If the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols fails through
Turkey’s fault, it will bring the recurrent moral victory to Armenia,
Hakob Avetikyan says. He finds it difficult to predict what Turkey
will gain as a result.
"One thing is clear. The process provided Turkey with an opportunity
to declare about its attitude towards Azerbaijan, thus trying to
interfere with the settlement of the Karabakh issue." Hakob Avetikyan
says, however, that the mediators will hardly allow Turkey to assume
any role in the Karabakh talks.
"Although the Armenian-Turkish relations and the Karabakh issue are not
interrelated they exert influence on each other," Hakob Avetikyan said.
