Yerevan (Yerkir) – Speaking at a news conference on February 18,
Armen Rustamyan, the ARF Supreme Body of Armenia representative and
the chairman of the parliamentary Commission on Foreign Relations,
said that his panel will ask the speaker of the parliament to schedule
preliminary discussion of the Armenian-Turkish protocols in the
commission first and then submit them to the full parliament.
He said that the official position is that the protocols should be
ratified as they are and following their ratification by the Turkish
parliament. He said that President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement that
he would guarantee the ratification of the protocols is unacceptable.
"I think it doesn’t contribute to our country’s image at all,"
Rustamyan said. "We are a country on the path to democracy, and the
branches of government are separated."
He also added that his party has drafted a law allowing the country’s
parliament to denounce any international agreement. The draft also
envisages cases where Armenia should make reservations in agreements,
he added.
