Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry gives official statement on large-scale
shooting on frontline between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry voiced an official statement due to
large-scale shooting on a frontline between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The report said that on February 18 the Armenian armed forces fired
positions of Azerbaijani Army in the Tapqaraqoyunlu village of
Geranboy region, Gizil Oba and Gapanly villages of Terter region and
Yusifjanli and Javashirli village of Agdam region with automatic
rifles and machine-guns.
As a result of large-scale firefight, soldiers of the Azerbaijani army
– Mammadov Sahil Novruz oglu, 19, junior praporshik Farajov Royal
Tesher oglu, 19, Rustamov David Sultanmuradovich, 19, were killed.
Soldier Adigezalov Elvin Murad oglu, 20, was injured.
The Azerbaijani troops answered their fire. The Armenian side has
suffered losses.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the
occupied territories.
