IRAN SATISFIES INTERNAL DEMAND AT THE EXPENSE OF… ARMENIA

ArmInfo. The policy of the Iranian Government aims to satisfy internal
demand through import of live cattle also from Armenia. In the current
year (March 21 2009 – March 20 2010) Iran has imported 140,000 heads
of cattle and this figure may be increased to 500,000 heads, said
Secretary of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Society Mir Qasim Momeni in
an interview with ISNA, Iran News reported.
He said that in close cooperation with the above Society and the
Association of Bilateral Armenian-Iranian Cooperation an agreement
was achieved to extend presence of Iranian business in Armenia.
Momeni said that negotiations between high-ranking officials of Iran
and Armenia resulted in an arrangement between the two countries
businessmen to invest in joint projects in the sphere of agriculture,
animal breeding and industry. In particular, Iranian investors were
provided with 1,000 ha of agricultural lands in the territory of
Armenia to grow oil-bearing and forage crop and breed cattle. These
lands were extended to 4,000 ha over the year.
