"The inner situation in Turkey is sharpened. An inner war is on in
Turkey now, simply there are no victims yet. This inner struggle
which has reached a war level goes on between of two elite groupings;
traditional Kemal and Islamic", – turkologist Ruben Safrastyan said.
According to him this conflict takes place in the military area, there
is a very strong impact over the civic authorities over the military
forces as well as there is a struggle among the legislative bodies.
Safrastyan, however is not making predictions. "It’s too early"
he says.
On one hand the turkologist does not exclude the possibility military
revolution and on the other he thinks that the possibility is not
too big.
"The higher military structure is not stable; it has no authority
which will allow them to call back the public."
"If a revolution takes place all the experts think that there will
be many victims. This keeps back from the idea of revolution", –
the turkologist mentioned.
R. Safrastyan reminded that on 1960, 1980 revolutions there were
almost no victims. But now Turkey is in a different situation, and
Turkey is different too. "The role of NATO is rather big here. It
always interferes. If the authorities will announce to attack there
is no confidence that the military forces will realize it".
