/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Ulli Wegner, the coach of Armenian undefeated
super middleweight Arthur Abraham, is questioning the validity of
Andre Dirrell’s back injury. They were scheduled to fight in the
second stage of "Super Six World Boxing Classic" on March 6. Dirrell
withdrew with a back injury. The fight was postponed to March 27.
Last week, super middleweight Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) injured
his back while training this week for a fight to be on March 6th at the
Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California. Dirrell decided to
take three weeks off to rehabilitate his injured back. "I’m familiar
with back injuries myself after damaging my back not too long ago"
he said.
Uli Wegner told BILD, "How can he [Dirrell] already know that he’ll
be 100% fit by March 27? When someone gets injured he can’t say the
exact date of his recovery. Camp Dirrell just want to play mind games
with us, but this won’t give them any advantage. Arthur is staying
focused and won’t get thrown off track."
Abraham, who is the current leader following the knockout win, had
moved his camp to the United States on Feb. 8 in anticipation of the
Dirrell fight. "Of course, I was disappointed when I first heard of
the postponement," Abraham said. "But I am happy to take on Dirrell
on March 27. I want him to be in top shape so that he has no excuses
once I am done with him.
"My training has gone very well thus far. I am in great shape, and
I will defend my tournament lead against him," he added.
"King" Arthur Abraham (born on February 20, 1980 in Yerevan, Armenia)
is an German professional boxer of Armenian origin, residing in Berlin,
Germany. He has been undefeated as IBF Middleweight World champion. As
of the end of 2009, The Ring has ranked Abraham as the 14th best
boxer in the world. He also owns WBA Inter-Continental middleweight
title. In 2007 Abraham was awarded "Andranik Ozanyan" medal.
