The RA permanent representative to the UNO Karen Nazaryan addressed a
letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon in
connection with the tragic events in Sumgait and Baku. The letter in
particular runs that Azerbaijani is continuing presenting itself as a
victim of the "Armenian aggression" mutating well-known tragic events.
Ambassador Nazaryan brings different examples of how the Azerbaijani
government killed its own citizens to reach power during the war. The
letter underlines the affirmations of the international society
about the violence committed by the Azerbaijani government against
the Armenian undefended population. The letter runs that the Sumgait
slaughters in 1988 were the first mass killings in the Soviet Union.
Right after the independence, Baku released all the murderers and
proclaimed them national heroes.
