On February 25, the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan conducted the regular
open lesson for the high senior students of Arabkir Administrative
District of Yerevan, who visited the parliament. The Speaker of the
Parliament spoke about the structure and role of the National Assembly,
the powers reserved to the higher legislative body by the basic law
of the country. This time the high senior students were interested in
the Armenian-Turkish relations. Mr. Abrahamyan said that the problem
was to open the borders and establish diplomatic relations. Though
the protocols are now in the Armenian Parliament, they will only be
ratified after the ratification of the Grand Assembly of Turkey. The
NA Speaker also ensured that our economy will greatly benefit from
the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.

One of the school students was interested in the efficiency of the
senior school. Hovik Abrahamyan said that he was for the reforms of
the sphere of the education, but according to the Parliament Speaker,
they must only be made after long-term preparatory work in order to
have positive and satisfactory results. As this issue is always raised
during all the meetings with the students, and Mr. Abrahamyan has
proposed the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture,
Youth and Sport to organize parliamentary hearings on that theme,
which will take place on March 10. The NA Speaker asked the teachers
to present their proposals.

During this open lesson numerous questions were also voiced, to
which the Parliament Speaker gave exhaustive answers. The teachers
accompanying the children expressed their gratitude to Hovik Abrahamyan
for warm and sincere reception.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
