Churches urged to serve country

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Christian churches in India have got a key role to
play in protecting the integrity and culture of the country which
holds people belonging to all religious faiths in its fold, said
Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia of the Armenian Orthodox
Church.

The Armenian Catholicos was addressing a meeting held in his honour at
the St. George’s Orthodox church at Chandanappally near here on
Friday. He said the Church could grow in India due to the sustenance
of the country’s rich cultural heritage. The Church should strive for
the overall development of the country, upholding national pride. A
Christian way of dedication and commitment was needed to serve the
country, he added.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
