Today in Armenia commemorated the victims of Sumgait pogroms. The
representatives of younger generation with the lighted candles in
their hands proceeded by a march to the memorial of the victims of the
Armenian Genocide, to "Tsitsernakaberd, where they laid flowers at the
cross stone set in memory of innocent victims.

The initiator of the march is a youth organization "Miasin"
(`Together’). The Participants will lay flowers also at the monument
of the victims of the Holocaust.

They are also intended to deliver a letter to the Yerevan Office of
UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, demanding an appropriate assessment to
the events that occurred 22 years ago in the Azerbaijani city Sumgait.

"On behalf of the young people of Armenia, we urge the international
community to duly assess the ongoing crime, to recognize those events
as genocide in order to prevent the recurrence of similar crimes in
the future, because as the history has shown such crimes occurred also
after 1988," – said Gevorg Vardanyan, the member of the organization
`Miasin’.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
