BEIRUT MOURNS FOR SUMGAIT VICTIMS

The ceremony of mourning for the victims of the Sumgait Massacres was
held on February 28 in Beirut, a spokesperson for Armenia’s Foreign
Ministry said.

Armenian St. Nshan Church held a mourning ceremony in memory of the
Sumgait Victims. After the ceremony Armenia’s Ambassador to Lebanon
Ashot Kocharian, Ararat paper’s chief editor Agaron Shkhrdmian,
and Bishop Gegham Khacherian of the Armenian Diocese in Lebanon, spoke.

The mourning ceremonies were attended by deputies, leaders of
the political parties, representatives of Armenian Community and
organisations of Lebanon, and journalists.

The Sumgait Massacres, committed by Azerbaijani nationalists groups
on February 26-28 1988 against Armenian population of the town,
left dozens of Armenians dead and hundreds others injured.
